Should I Stay or Should I go – The Clash
Pt.1
This is a classic tune that every guitar player should know! Especially after the popularity of Stranger Things! This one may be tough for a 1-2 year student, but there are ways to make it a little easier.
You’ll need to know your basic D, G, A, and F chords. F is usually the trickiest one, and a way to “cheat” the chord is to NOT fret the high E at all, and have it be a 3 note chord containing F-A-C.
In measure 16 an A7 is used, again, if this proves tough, keep it with a basic A chord, work up to the A7, it isn’t critical.
The rhythm is sometimes an issue as well. Some students have a tough time with the start/stop/start/stop nature of the riff. Often times, and this is one of them, our ears are much better than our eyes. What I usually recommend is to listen to the lyrics, and ‘feel it’, getting away from the written page as quick as possible.
The next issue(s) are the power chords in the chorus (more on that in part 2)………
